Wood A Good Choice For A Camper Floor?

Wood A Good Choice For A Camper Floor?

When you think of camper trailers some think of old carpeting in them, like in the 70’s, it’s got to go, camping and carpets just do mix if you ask me. Some people are going with vinyl, I guess I get it, but really guys, your roughing it, you’re going out into the wilderness, unless you are Will Smith with a trailer larger than most of our homes and a gourmet stove and coffee maker, let’s face it. Camping is like rejoining nature, and what’s more natural than wood. Yes, wood can warp a bit or shrink in trailers, but that’s if they are not taken care of. Campers are used for several months through the year then closed up for colder seasons, imagine leaving your home for the duration you leave your camper every year, it would be bound to face problems too wouldn’t it?

My first suggestion would be to go with stronger hardwood that is excellent for outdoor elements; campers have a tendency to face wet damp temperatures, or hot and humid ones. Going with a natural weather proof wood like Garapa, one you would use even for outdoor decking will ensure that the floor will be with you as long as your camper is. Also pests, think about it you’re in the woods, you spray yourself with spray to protect against mosquitoes and ticks, what other insects are bound to join you in your traveling home?? You want wood that naturally protects against insect infestations, well, there are natural hardwoods that do just that, take Tigerwood for example, and this is a strong, weather and pest proof wood.

How about pets, I’m sure you travel with them, some people are in their campers for just a weekend every here and their others spend the entire summer in them. I don’t have any dogs or cats but my friends that do call them their children and I can tell you I wouldn’t be leaving my kids behind! Pets have a tendency to cut up vinyl flooring with their claws, telling a pet not to scratch is like telling a kid not to color on the walls yet you leave a box of crayons and no paper for them and walk away. Pets are sometimes stick for long durations in small trailers, they may, especially when stretching, give the floors a scratch or two, how horrible would it be if your vinyl flooring was ripped apart in just a year?? Ipe is an extremely durable hardwood used in outdoor decking that has a natural resistance to pet scratches making it a pet owner’s dream wood.

Other bonuses to wood flooring making it an easier choice when replacing old floors is that wood is easy to clean and does not stain easily. Also, hardwood just looks nice, in a home, traveling home, decks, vacation homes, it can look classic, modern, rustic, and it looks good! Other flooring materials can come and go with the times possibly giving … READ MORE ...

Things You Can Do to Keep Your Home Business Green

Things You Can Do to Keep Your Home Business Green

Running a business from home is about as good as it gets when it comes to going green. You don’t have to spend hours every day commuting to work and back, which means you already have a smaller carbon footprint to begin with. Home businesses tend to be more efficient in terms of energy usage too.

However, there are still a lot of things you can do to make your home business friendly to the environment. The simplest of steps can create the biggest impact, which is why we are going to discuss some of the easiest things you can do to become eco-friendly in this article.

Limit Your Use of Paper

At the top of our list of easy things to do to go green, we have limiting the use of paper. As a home business, you really don’t need to use a lot of paper. Critical business information and files are now stored digitally.

Digital files are not only easier to maintain, but friendlier to the environment. For documents that you still need to print, use recycled paper whenever possible.

You can also take more steps in this department, including disposing used ink cartridges properly and only using ink cartridges that you know you can recycle later.

Sustainable Supplies

Whether you are making your own products or reselling items to customers, working with goods that are made in a sustainable way is the way to go. Goods that still use a lot of plastic for packaging, for example, aren’t friendly to the environment. The same can be said for products that leave behind a large carbon footprint as part of their manufacturing processes.

Sustainable supplies are the best. While it is not always possible to switch to better supplies or stick with eco-friendly manufacturing processes, you can always make the decision to source items locally whenever possible.

Give Back

In an interesting discussion with Michael A Peck, MAPA founder and business development guru, we learned that businesses that donate and give back more are more likely to succeed on the market. The same can be said for businesses who are more active in establishing eco-friendly processes.

Rather than throwing away items you no longer use in your home office, donate them to a good cause. Old desks, computers you no longer use, and other office equipment that has been replaced can still be useful for others.

Reward Clients

One last tip we are going to discuss is rewarding customers for supporting your efforts to go green. When a client sends you a digital invoice rather than a paper one, for instance, show appreciation. The same can be said for customers who use their own shopping bag offline or opt for less packaging when ordering online.

The rewards don’t have to be particularly big either. You can, for example, use eco-friendly merchandise or souvenirs to support the cause. The more people you persuade others to join the movement, the bigger the impact your business makes … READ MORE ...

Tips To Repair And Maintain Your Garage Door

Routine safety and maintenance of your garage entrance is needed to keep it in good working order. Tips to use for maintaining and repairing your garage door will help you determine if there is a problem. When a problem occurs the source will need to be found. If the motor unit is bad, a replacement is cheaper for you to buy than having the old one repaired.

Cleaning

The outside of your garage door should be cleaned at least four times a year. This can be done by using a soft car brush and water with a mild detergent. Regular washing of the garage door will reduce debris that can build up on the door that can cause it to age prematurely. You do not want to use a cleaner that is abrasive as it may damage the surface of the door. Salt should also not be used to melt snow near the door as it can corrode the hardware and other elements. Make sure to sweep up all leaves and debris in front of the door.

Lubrication

Lubricating the moving parts of your garage gate needs to be included in your maintenance strategy. A door that is properly lubricated will not stick. This can be done by using a light lubricating oil. You can find this type of oil at a local hardware store. Spray all the moving parts including all of the hinges and the rollers. Proper lubrication will keep the door operating efficiently as it opens and closes. Make sure to coat the springs for your garage door at least once a year.

Noisy Opener

The opener for your door may start to sound loud after regular use. This can be a sign that the door may be out of balance. Pull the emergency handle when the door is down. Lift the door up and let is close to see if the door is balanced. If the door is heavy to lift, then the springs may need to be adjusted.

Does Not Close

Newer garage doors have safety features that prevent the door from closing. Garage doors that will not close may need to have the sensors adjusted. These are small devices that are attached to the bottom of the track and need to see each other. If one sensor is misaligned, then the door will not close. Readjust the position of the sensors until the door closes properly.

Does Not Open

A garage door that does not open can indicate a couple or problems. One concern is that the springs on the door may be broken. The more likely cause is a bad motor unit. Test the motor by fist unplugging it from the electrical outlet. Plug a light or other device into the outlet to see if power is present. You may have a tripped circuit that needs to be reset. Most units have an overload protector. This will activate if the motor is overused. Wait a few minutes and try opening or … READ MORE ...

Avoid Fines

If you have an event in a public space and don’t take care of the trash appropriately, you could end up with fines from the county or the city. These fines can be substantial. However, by renting the necessary dumpsters, you can avoid these fines entirely.
